Tuesday, 19 Jul 2011: Shanghai FINA World Championships
I arrived in Shanghai a few hours ago along with my coach Bohly and our SPW Squad. It is great to be here and I am really excited to be racing in the next few days. We had 3 days in Singapore adjusting to the warmer climate after the winter in Australia and preparing for the racing at the end of this week. It is so nice to be back in China as I have special memories here. The people are so lovely, friendly and welcoming.
Racing commences on the 24th July and first up is the 200 Individual Medley. The heats are in the morning and the fastest 16 competitors go through to the semi-final that night. To be in the final on the 25th July I need to be in the top 8. I have some tough competition and I need to be on my game and perform well. The same applies to the 200 Butterfly with the heats in the morning of the 27th July and the Final on the evening of the 28th July.
The 400 Individual Medley follows a different format in that only the top 8 swimmers go through from the heats in the morning of the 31st July to a straight final that same evening. It is a tough race as you need to race over 400 meters twice in the one day.
