Stephanie Rice Shoulder 2010

Stephanie had a shoulder arthroscope on Wednesday 1st Sept 2010 at Cabrini Brighton Hospital with Professor Simon Bell and Dr Susan White (Physician to Swimming Australia Team).
Her specialists reported that gleno-humeral(shoulder) joint was “about as good a shoulder” that they had seen in an elite swimmer. The labrum and biceps tendon were all perfect and there was no internal impingement or evidence of arthritis.
The subacromial space (above the shoulder joint) where the bursa sits, was very thickened. It was all soft tissue thickening. There was NO bony impingement and the rotator cuff looked VERY normal.
The only procedure done was the removal of the bursa.

Now that the bursa is removed, the source of Stephanie’s pain should also be removed.
Stephanie will then need to do INTENSIVE rehabilitation with her physio and Strength & Conditioning coach focusing on scapular stabilising exercises to prevent future impingment.
Stephanie commenced light swimming, mainly kick and board work under the direction of her coach Michael Bohl on Monday 13th September.
All going well, Stephanie should be training at full capacitity by the end of November.
